The JIREH TRIPOD is a remotely operated magnetic crawler for weld and corrosion inspection on ferrous pipes, elbows, vessels, and tanks.
Its three-wheel drive system maintains stable contact on curved surfaces while allowing inspectors to position probes remotely in areas where manual scanning may be difficult or require additional access equipment.

Assets like pipes and tanks present challenging surfaces for weld and corrosion inspection, often requiring scaffolding and slow-going manual data collection.
The JIREH TRIPOD was made to address these challenges. It can carry inspection probes for ultrasonic thickness testing, corrosion mapping, or weld inspection across curved and vertical ferrous surfaces remotely, removing the need for manual data collection.
Three high-strength magnetic wheels help the JIREH TRIPOD maintain adhesion while traveling on curved, vertical, or inverted surfaces.
The three-wheel drive system supports both longitudinal and circumferential travel while maintaining stable probe positioning across curved surfaces. It can travel longitudinally on pipes starting at 12 inches (30.5 cm) in outside diameter and circumferentially on pipes starting at 8 inches (20 cm) in outside diameter, making it suitable for inspections across a range of asset geometries.
The TRIPOD’s rear wheel rotates through 180 degrees, allowing the crawler to pivot around either front wheel for tight directional changes. This zero-degree steering capability helps technicians navigate curved assets and align the crawler with longitudinal or circumferential scan paths.
Operators control steering, drive speed, and connected components from the handheld controller. Dual joysticks, a full-color touchscreen, haptic feedback, and an integrated D-pad provide precise control while keeping the technician at a practical operating location.
The JIREH TRIPOD base crawler can support multiple inspection workflows by carrying different probe holders and scanning attachments.
You can configure it with a motorized raster arm for corrosion mapping, an actuated probe lift for 0° ultrasonic thickness measurements and encoded B-scans, or a multi-probe holder frame for weld inspection.
JIREH also offers dedicated Tank Scanner and Weld Scanner configurations built around the TRIPOD platform. The Tank Scanner supports remotely controlled UT thickness measurements, while the Weld Scanner positions multiple probes for longitudinal and circumferential weld inspection.
The optional actuated probe lift allows technicians to remotely place a compatible 0° ultrasonic probe onto the inspection surface and raise it when repositioning the crawler.
Flat and curved wear plates help the probe assembly follow different asset geometries while accommodating minor surface irregularities.
When configured for thickness inspection, the crawler can also provide position data for encoded B-scans, helping technicians correlate ultrasonic measurements with locations along the scan path.
