Tinker & Rasor M1/AC

The Tinker & Rasor M1/AC is an AC-powered low-voltage holiday detector designed for inspecting thin-film protective coatings on conductive substrates using a non-destructive wet sponge inspection method.

Designed for coatings up to 20 mils thick, the M1/AC can be used on both metal and concrete substrates. When the wetted sponge passes over a holiday, pinhole, or void, the circuit is completed through the conductive substrate, triggering an audible signal that alerts the inspector to the defect.

About the Tinker & Rasor M1/AC

The Tinker & Rasor M1/AC is an AC-powered low-voltage wet sponge holiday detector designed for non-destructive inspection of thin-film protective coatings. Unlike high-voltage holiday detectors that use spark testing, the M1/AC uses a conductive sponge electrode and wetting solution to identify coating defects without damaging the coating being inspected.

Made to support continuous inspection in fabrication shops, coating facilities, and manufacturing environments, the M1/AC helps coating inspectors identify holidays, pinholes, voids, and other coating discontinuities before assets are placed into service. Its AC-powered design supports repeatable quality assurance inspections on coatings up to 20 mils thick.

Common Applications for the Tinker & Rasor M1/AC

The Tinker & Rasor M1/AC is commonly used for inspecting thin-film protective coatings on tanks, vessels, steel structures, concrete structures, and other coated assets. Its low-voltage wet sponge inspection method is designed for coatings up to 20 mils thick, making it a practical choice for coating systems that cannot be inspected using high-voltage spark testing.

Because it operates from a continuous AC power source, the M1/AC is often used in coating facilities, fabrication shops, manufacturing environments, and other locations where routine coating inspections are performed throughout the workday. It’s well suited for quality assurance programs, production inspections, and coating acceptance testing.
