MFE Offshore Partners with Hydromea to Bring Advanced Underwater ROV Technology to Energy Operators

Houston, TX, July 9, 2026—Today, MFE Offshore announces a new partnership with Hydromea, becoming an official distributor of the company’s robotics solutions for underwater inspection and asset integrity. Through the partnership, MFE Offshore will offer Hydromea’s innovative underwater inspection technologies to customers across energy, industrial manufacturing & storage, hydropower, marine infrastructure, climate science, and other water-intensive industries with submerged infrastructure.

“As underwater inspections become more demanding, operators need access to technologies that can safely and efficiently gather data in environments that are often hard to reach,” said Wendy Post, General Manager of MFE Offshore. “Many underwater inspections involve complex structures, confined spaces, and deployment challenges. Hydromea has developed a unique approach to addressing those challenges, and we’re excited to bring that capability to our customers.”

Offshore inspections traditionally require divers, large support vessels, or complex tether management systems. Onshore inspections often require costly dewatering, extended downtime, and human entry, each of which can increase operational costs and safety risks. Hydromea’s flagship ROV, the EXRAY, provides an alternative to many of these methods, helping operators collect higher-quality underwater inspection data faster.

What sets the EXRAY apart is its ability to serve as a communications relay for a tetherless inspection drone. Using Hydromea’s proprietary underwater wireless technology, operators can maintain real-time control and receive live HD video from the drone without relying on a physical tether.

The EXRAY’s compact design and highly agile 6-degree-of-freedom (6-DoF) control system make it easier to collect visual inspection data and ultrasonic thickness (UT) measurements in confined spaces and submerged structures. Its proprietary rim-driven thrusters—among the thinnest in the world—eliminate exposed rotating components, helping minimize entanglement risk when maneuvering inside ballast tanks, riser systems, and structural frameworks.

“Hydromea developed the EXRAY robot to take underwater inspections to a new professional level in complex environments while making piloting easier,” said Igor Martin, CEO of Hydromea. “MFE Offshore understands the operational realities that inspection teams face every day. Their experience helps customers evaluate, deploy, and support inspection technologies in the right way, which makes MFE an ideal partner as we bring the class-ready EXRAY robot to more operators across the energy industry.”

The partnership further expands MFE Offshore’s growing portfolio of subsea and offshore technologies, including underwater positioning systems, ROVs, sonar systems, subsea navigation tools, and other specialized subsea inspection technologies. The EXRAY is designed for class-ready inspection workflows and has already been deployed in DNV and ABS class inspection programs through certified service partners.

To celebrate the new partnership, MFE Offshore will host a Demo Day on July 16 at its offshore facility. Attendees will have the opportunity to see the EXRAY in operation, meet with technical specialists, and discuss potential applications for their own inspection programs. Admission is free, but space is limited and registration is encouraged.
