Phased Array Ultrasonic Testing Certification Course

By: Uplift NDT, MFE Inspection Solutions

Phased Array Ultrasonic Testing Theory, Part 1

The Phased Array Ultrasonic Testing (PAUT) Part 1 Certification Course provides a comprehensive introduction to the theory and principles behind phased array technology, an advanced ultrasonic method used for high-resolution imaging of internal structures.

This 40-hour course is designed to establish a strong technical foundation in PAUT, covering essential topics such as multi-element probe design, electronic beam steering, system calibration, and the fundamentals of weld inspection applications.

With a focus on understanding how phased array systems function and how to interpret the resulting data, participants will explore inspection techniques commonly applied in industries like aerospace, pipeline integrity, and power generation.

Through classroom-based instruction, case studies, and guided demonstrations, students will gain the theoretical knowledge required to confidently progress to hands-on practice in PAUT Part 2.

This training meets the requirements of ASNT SNT-TC-1A, CP-189, and NAS-410, and is recommended for individuals who have completed UT Level I or II.

Phased Array Ultrasonic Testing Lab, Part 2

The Phased Array Ultrasonic Testing Part 2 Certification Course builds on the theoretical foundation established in Part 1, offering advanced training in real-world phased array inspection techniques and data analysis.

Designed as a 40-hour intensive, this course focuses on practical application—guiding participants through complex flaw detection, detailed weld and corrosion mapping, and hands-on use of phased array equipment for both sectorial and linear scanning methods.

Students will refine their ability to collect and interpret high-resolution ultrasonic data, characterize discontinuities, and execute precise scans critical to industries such as pipeline inspection, aerospace, power generation, and heavy fabrication.

Through structured practical exercises and expert supervision, participants will gain the confidence and competence to perform advanced PAUT inspections in the field, aligning with the expectations of today’s high-performance NDT environments.

This training meets the requirements of ASNT SNT-TC-1A, CP-189, and NAS-410, and is recommended for individuals who have completed PAUT Part 1 and UT Level I or II.
