Polartrack II Mini ROV Probe

The Polatrak ROV II Mini is a compact cathodic protection (CP) probe designed for AUVs, smaller ROVs, and diver-operated subsea inspections.

Designed for deepwater deployment, the ROV II Mini combines a lightweight form factor with twin reference elements that provide two readings at every contact point. This gives operators greater confidence in survey results while supporting reliable cathodic protection assessments in demanding offshore environments.

Polartrack II Mini ROV Probe for Compact Subsea Cathodic Protection Surveys

Cathodic protection surveys play an important role in evaluating the condition of submerged steel structures, helping operators verify that pipelines, platforms, pilings, and other marine assets receive adequate corrosion protection.

The Polatrak ROV II Mini was developed for these applications. Designed specifically for AUVs and smaller ROVs while remaining suitable for diver-held inspections, it provides the same fundamental cathodic protection measurement capability as the larger ROV II in a more compact package.

Compact Design for AUVs and Small ROVs

Smaller ROVs and AUVs often have tighter payload limits, less available mounting space, and lower manipulator capacity than larger inspection platforms, making equipment size and weight important considerations.

The Polatrak ROV II Mini addresses these constraints with a compact design measuring 15.3 inches long, 1.6 inches in diameter, and weighing just 0.5 pounds in air (0.2 pounds in water).

This smaller form factor makes it easier to integrate cathodic protection measurement capability into vehicles where a larger probe may be less practical, while helping preserve available payload capacity and maneuverability for the rest of the inspection system. It is also suitable for diver-held inspections when manual measurements are required.

Twin-Element Readings Help Verify Probe Performance

The Polatrak ROV II Mini addresses the challenge of verifying readings with twin reference elements that provide two readings at every contact location.

If the readings differ substantially, operators know that one of the elements has likely failed and can continue the survey using the remaining element rather than immediately abandoning the inspection. This built-in redundancy helps inspection teams identify potential probe issues in the field while reducing the risk that a completed survey must be repeated because of an undetected electrode failure.

Contact and Proximity Modes for Flexible Survey Workflows

The Polatrak ROV II Mini supports both direct contact and proximity measurement methods.

It can be used as a tip-contact “stabbing” probe to take readings directly from a submerged structure, or it can operate as a proximity electrode when used with a surface ground wire or diver umbilical.

This flexibility allows the same probe to support inspections performed by AUVs, compact ROVs, or commercial divers while accommodating a range of cathodic protection survey procedures and subsea operating conditions.

3,000-Meter Depth Rating for Deepwater Inspections

The Polatrak ROV II Mini is rated for depths of up to 3,000 meters, making it suitable for a wide range of offshore inspection applications.

Combined with its compact size, the probe allows operators to perform cathodic protection surveys using smaller underwater vehicles without sacrificing the deepwater capability often required for offshore oil and gas, offshore wind, and other subsea infrastructure inspections.

Whether deployed from a compact ROV, an AUV, or by a commercial diver in shallower environments, the ROV II Mini is designed to support corrosion monitoring workflows across diverse underwater assets.
