Sonardyne Micro-Ranger 2 USBL
The Micro-Ranger 2 USBL is a portable underwater tracking and positioning system designed to help operators monitor the real-time location of subsea assets with confidence.
Using advanced acoustic positioning technology, it calculates and displays the range, bearing, and depth of underwater targets through an intuitive radar-style interface. This makes it an ideal solution for teams that need clear, reliable underwater tracking in dynamic marine environments.
Built for versatility, the Micro-Ranger 2 is commonly used to track divers, ROVs, AUVs, and other submerged equipment in coastal waters, rivers, lakes, and reservoirs.
Its compact, self-contained design allows for rapid deployment from boats, shorelines, or uncrewed surface vessels, making it a practical choice for search and rescue operations, marine surveys, and subsea inspections.
Optional communication capabilities further enhance its value by enabling interaction with underwater vehicles when required.

Sonardyne Micro-Ranger 2 USBL for Real-Time Underwater Tracking and Subsea Positioning
When you’re working on the water, one of the biggest challenges isn’t just getting the job done — it’s knowing exactly where your people and equipment are beneath the surface. Visibility drops to zero fast. GPS doesn’t work underwater. And guessing the position of a diver, ROV, or subsea tool can lead to delays, safety risks, or costly mistakes.
The Micro-Ranger 2 USBL solves that problem by giving you a clear, real-time picture of what’s happening below. It lets you track underwater assets with confidence, so you’re not operating blind.
Whether you’re supporting a dive team, running an ROV inspection, or deploying equipment to the seabed, you always know the exact position of your target — helping you work safer, faster, and with far more control.
Ultra-portable USBL system with multi-target underwater tracking and all-day battery power
The Micro-Ranger 2 USBL combines a true ultra-portable one-box design with high-capacity multi-target underwater tracking, making it ideal for fast-moving marine operations.
Housed in a rugged IP67 case, the entire system, including the transceiver, cables, and transponders, fits into a compact, travel-ready unit that can even be carried as hand luggage.
Its built-in 33 Wh lithium-ion battery delivers over 10 hours of continuous operation, eliminating reliance on vessel power and allowing deployment from small boats, shorelines, or USVs without complex setup.
At the same time, the system can track up to 10 targets sequentially at ranges up to 995 meters, providing position updates up to 3 times per second.
This ensures operators maintain constant, real-time visibility of divers, ROVs, AUVs, and subsea equipment, reducing the risk of lost assets, improving safety, and keeping operations running efficiently.
Omni-directional USBL transceiver with built-in diagnostics and wideband acoustic accuracy
The Micro-Ranger 2 USBL features an omni-directional micro-ranger transceiver (MRT) paired with advanced 6G hardware and Wideband 2 digital acoustics, delivering highly accurate underwater positioning with system accuracy of less than 5% of slant range.
The compact transceiver is optimized for wide-area acoustic coverage all the way to the surface, eliminating common blind spots that operators often experience in shallow coastal waters and inland environments. This ensures consistent tracking performance even when monitoring high-elevation or fast-moving targets.
To further improve reliability, the system includes built-in diagnostics and access to a global sound velocity profile database. Operators can activate diagnostics mode to listen to and visualize ambient water noise, removing the guesswork from acoustic troubleshooting.
The integrated sound profiles help prevent positioning errors caused by incorrect manual data entry, giving teams greater confidence in their tracking accuracy while reducing downtime during critical operations.
Sonardyne Micro-Ranger 2 USBL with Export License-Free Design and Plug-and-Play Underwater Tracking Software
The Micro-Ranger 2 USBL is export license-free and non-ITAR controlled, allowing companies to move the system across international borders without the delays, compliance complications, or customs holds that often slow down subsea projects.
This makes it an ideal underwater tracking solution for global operations, offshore contractors, and rapid-response teams that need to mobilize equipment at short notice without bureaucratic roadblocks.
It also features plug-and-play connectivity with an intuitive radar-style software interface, accessible via Wi-Fi or Ethernet using your own laptop. Designed to require no specialized training, the system allows operators to make a few simple connections and begin tracking immediately.
This drastically reduces setup time, eliminates the need for a dedicated acoustic engineer, and lowers overall operational costs while delivering professional-grade USBL positioning performance.
NFC-enabled Nano Transponders with Two-Way Subsea Communication for Smarter Underwater Operations
The Micro-Ranger 2 USBL is equipped with compact NFC-enabled Nano transponders, measuring just 150 mm in length and weighing only 225 grams, making them ideal for divers, micro ROVs, and small subsea assets.
With wireless charging and near field communication (NFC) capabilities, operators can quickly configure and activate transponders without complex wiring or time-consuming setup. This reduces handling frustration, minimizes payload impact on smaller vehicles, and speeds up deployment in the field.
For even greater capability, the optional Marine Robotics software pack unlocks two-way data exchange from 200 to 9,000 bps and remote vehicle control when paired with compatible hardware. This eliminates the need for separate tracking and communication systems, simplifying autonomous missions and improving operational efficiency.
If you’re looking to streamline underwater tracking while gaining greater control over your subsea assets, the Micro-Ranger 2 delivers a smarter, more connected solution.
