Robotics for NDT (Non-Destructive Testing)
Today, robotics are being utilized for several inspection methods to access hard-to-reach areas and keep inspectors out of harm’s way.
MFE Inspection Solutions is the industry leader in advanced inspection technology systems, offering comprehensive solutions for many environmental challenges that inspectors may run into, whether on land, underground, underwater, or within confined spaces.
Laser Scanning Solutions
MFE offers advanced solutions for field efficiency and precision, including a high-speed 3D laser scanning system that seamlessly integrates with robotic platforms for streamlined operations, and a laser sensor designed to provide 360° internal measurements of small cavities such as bores and pipes.
Spot & Trimble X7
The Trimble X7 is a high-speed 3D laser scanning system easily integrated into Boston Dynamics Spot robot and able to simplify adoption, increase efficiency and provide confidence in the field.

Crab Crawler & CRM-180 Laser Sensor
The CRM-180 Sensor is a new advancement in laser measurement technology. The sensor measures internal geometries of bores, pipes containers and other small space cavities. The laser sensor has the ability to scan the inner surface of a cavity geometry over 360° at 4096 angular points.
Confined Space Visual Inspection Solutions
MFE’s inspection solutions include a versatile robotic system with spring-loaded drive arms and rubber-coated wheels, designed for maximum traction and adaptability inside pipes, ensuring smooth navigation through uneven surfaces and cross-sections.
Another robotic platform is optimized for challenging environments, offering extended run times and long-range wireless capabilities for enhanced inspections and remote surveillance in confined spaces.
Crab Crawler Systems
The Crab Crawlers drive unit consists of 6 spring-loaded motor drive arms. Combined with 32 radial ball bearings, and 12 rubber-coated wheels, the Crab Crawler motors enable it to achieve maximum traction inside piping and perform internal inspections with ease. The spring-loaded drive arms also ensure that the robot is securely centered inside the pipe to enable the robot to adapt to uneven surfaces and navigate past cross-sections.
Sarcos Guardian S
Optimized for unpredictable environments, the Guardian S robot is designed to navigate uneven, challenging terrain and confined spaces. In addition, this robot delivers extended run times and long-range wireless operations, making inspections and remote surveillance more effective than ever before.
Autonomous Operations
MFE’s autonomous operations include AI models designed to integrate with various visual capture platforms, from CCTV and mounted cameras to advanced robots and drones.
These custom models enable tasks such as analog gauge reading, thermal anomaly detection, and change detection when paired with robotic systems for efficient and reliable inspections.
Levatas Artificial Intelligence Models
Levatas AI Models work with a wide variety of visual capture platforms, ranging from CCTV and single mount cameras to advanced quadruped robots and drones. Custom-designed fully operational models can be utilized with Boston Dynamics Spot, the robot dog for analog gauge reading, thermal anomaly and change detection.
Ultrasonic Inspection Crawlers
MFE’s ultrasonic inspection crawlers include a lightweight, magnetic system designed for fast, efficient inspections of remote access areas, offering a safer alternative for tank wall and roof inspections.
HPX Wall Crawler
The HPX Wall-Crawler (High-Performance X-Type) is a highly maneuverable, rugged magnetic crawler. Weighing only 12.5 lbs, the HPX Wall Crawler is the fastest method for inspecting remote access areas and a much safer alternative for ultrasonic tank wall and roof inspections.
Gas & Acoustic Imaging
MFE’s gas and acoustic imaging solutions include a versatile payload that automates air and gas leak detection, as well as mechanical sound monitoring, when integrated with robotic systems.
The multifunctional optical gas imaging camera enables operators to visualize various hydrocarbon gas leaks, either as a handheld device or mounted on mobile robotic platforms for automated inspections.
SV600 Spot Payload
The SV600 can also be a payload accessory for Boston Dynamics’ quadruped robot Spot. Automate industrial inspections, monitor remote or hazardous environments. Spot can also be reconfigured for various use cases to increase efficiency and reduce safety risks. For example, with the SV600 payload, Spot will now automate air and gas leak detection and identify mechanical sound signatures.
MFE OGI (Optical Gas Imaging) Camera
The MFE OGI Camera brings together the very latest in detector, cooler and lens design for the visualization of methane, propane, butane, and many other hydrocarbon gas leaks.
This optical gas imaging camera is a multifunctional equipment solution that can be used as a handheld device or mounted onto Boston Dynamics’ Spot the agile, mobile robot.
By pairing the MFE OGI camera with Spot, operators may rely on Spot’s unprecedented mobility to automate routine inspection tasks. Then, when further inspection is required, the MFE OGI Camera can be removed from Spot and used as a hand-held device.
